Team Building for the Classroom
Your entire classroom culture can improve when students feel like a team
Have you ever noticed how students who play sports together are more likely to be friends than foes? Wonder why summer camps spend their entire first day bringing students together and making cabin badges and building trust? Both have to do with the power of being a part of a team.
When students believe that the people in their lives have their best interests at heart, they flourish. Unfortunately, kids will often come to your classroom with plenty of unresolved baggage between themselves and other members of their learning community, and young people don’t always know how to repair that.
My current explorations have left the bounds of technology and are reaching deeply into forming relationships and helping to bridge gaps between students. A well-formed team will support one another through stressful lessons and will make it easier to put aside anxiety and absorb new material.
The first lesson in this series is up on STEAMblender, with more to follow as I research exercises and benefits as they relate to classrooms and education.
Enjoy!
